On January 29, Join the National Day of Prayer to Save Asylum!
January 29, 2020 marks one year since the U.S. government began implementing “Remain in Mexico,” a disastrous policy that traps asylum-seekers in Mexico while they wait for a chance to make their cases in court in the United States.
Since then our government has forced more than 57,000 people to live in unsafe, often unsanitary conditions due to this policy. More than 800 people have been subjected to assaults, robberies, kidnappings, rape, and even murder while stranded in Mexico, including over 200 children. Only 4% have been able to get lawyers to help with their cases, and only 1% have been granted asylum.
This is unacceptable and contrary to our morals and faith beliefs. IIC and partners are calling for a national day of prayer vigils to demand an end to this Remain in Mexico policy, and a more compassionate welcome to individuals seeking safety in the United States.
Commit to organizing or attending a prayer vigil below! We will provide all the materials needed to make it easy, so you can focus on spreading the word. Click on the “Resources” tab above for more!
